UIL Region Solo and Ensemble

Students from Seven Lakes High School in Katy, TX performed Soundings for euphonium / tuba quartet by Steve Matchett for the Region level ensemble contest. The group received a superior rating and will advance to the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest to be held at the University of Texas at Austin in late May of 2011. The ensemble members are Ryan Griffin & Graham Joshua - euphoniums, Trent Gray and Adam Martin - tubas. Their private teacher and coach is Carl Muller.

The Scirocco Winds, a wind quintet based in Houston, will include the premiere of Steve Matchett's Wind Quintet No. 1 on a recital for the Abendmusik Recital Series.
The ensemble members are Kimberly Clark - flute, Season Summers - oboe, Eric Bean - clarinet, Tianna Bonser - horn, and Gina Stevens - bassoon. This vibrant ensemble is dedicated to the performance of the contemporary American repertoire for wind quintet. They are planning future recording projects to feature this important repertoire, focusing on worthy works that are as yet unrecorded.

Ernest Bott Jr., tenor and bass trombone, and Tamera Zona, piano performed Expressions for bass trombone and piano by Steve Matchett. Mr. Bott performs with the Acadian Wind Symphony in Lafayette, LA; the Rapides Symphony in Alexandria, LA; and the Lake Charles Symphony also in LA. Tamera Zona performs with the Red River Chorale and is active as an accompanist and teacher in Alexandria, LA.

HASSA Cello Ensemble Concert

A concert of cello ensemble music that featured the Fantasy Variations on "Scarborough Fair" for six cellos by Steve Matchett. Teacher members of the Houston Area Suzuki Strings Association (HASSA) presented a concert of music for cello ensembles. This was a free fundraising concert for the organization and donations were accepted. The performers are some of the top freelance cellists in the Houston area: Martha Lisle, Terri Matchett, Fran Koiner, Peter Kempter, Brady Lanier, and Beth El Montgomery, cellos; Steve Matchett, conductor.
